Social events

The LOC has organized a series of events open to all participants and their accompanying persons, included in the registration fee. Interest in the guided tour will be specifically requested from all registered people via email by mid-September, to allow the LOC to organize an adequate number of guides. Welcome aperitif

The LOC is glad to invite all participants and their accompanying persons to open the Workshop with an informal welcome aperitif on Tuesday, September 24, 6:30–8:30 PM, hosted by the Scuola Superiore Universitaria di Toppo Wassermann of the University of Udine at the Velario of Palazzo Garzolini di Toppo Wassermann [map]. A registration desk will be active at the entrance.

Social banquet

The TDS 2024 social banquet will take place on Thursday, September 26, at Villa de Claricini Dornpacher, located in Bottenicco di Moimacco [map], a small rural village on the outskirts of Cividale del Friuli, 15 km east of Udine. The villa was built around the middle of the 17th century by the de Claricini Dornpacher family and since 1971 it has been the headquarters of the foundation of the same name established at the behest of Countess Giuditta de Claricini, the most recent owner of the villa, with the aim of preserving its heritage and promoting cultural research and events. A coach service leaving from Piazza Primo Maggio will bring us to the villa (departure from the base of the castle [map], please be there a few minutes in advance with respect to the departure time as scheduled in the program). An aperitif in the garden of the villa will precede the social banquet. Coaches will then bring us back to Piazza Primo Maggio.

Guided tour

On Wednesday, September 25, 6:00–7:30 PM the LOC has organized a guided tour of the historic center of Udine, conducted in English by official regional tourist guides. The visit lasts approximately one hour and a half and begins at 18:00 under the Loggia di San Giovanni, in front of the Loggia del Lionello, in Piazza Libertà [map]. Depending on the number of participants, groups of maximum 30 people each will be organized.

Museums

The LOC has also arranged for all participants and their accompanying persons free entrance to the Museums of the Castle and to Casa Cavazzini during the whole week of the workshop. To gain access please show your conference badge at the ticket desks. Visits are allowed during the standard opening hours (Tuesday to Sunday, 10:00–18:00).

The Castle of Udine is home to several museums: the Archaeological Museum and the Museum of the Risorgimento on the ground floor; on the main floor the Gallery of Ancient Art, which includes paintings by Carpaccio, Caravaggio and Tiepolo and other artists from the 1300s to the 1800s; the Museum of Photography on the third floor. There are further collections that may be visited by appointment: the Numismatic Collections, the Galleries of Drawings and Prints, and the Sculpture and Plaster Cast Collections. The Castle also hosts the Art Library, with over 45000 books, and the Photo Library, with more than 180000 images, including photographs, negatives and original plates.

Casa Cavazzini is the seat of the new Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, located in the heart of Udine’s historic centre. It hosts permanent exhibitions showcasing paintings and sculptures from the 1800s to the present day. The ground floor of the building is reserved for temporary exhibitions and other events.

SUPE public talks

In the occasion of TDS 2024, the Scuola Superiore Universitaria di Toppo Wassermann (SUPE) organizes 3 public talks on delays, earthquakes and mammals for an afternoon around maths and dynamics (abstracts). A further opportunity for those of you already in Udine for the workshop!
